Food & Drink

Food is so evocative. So it’s crucial when capturing food and drink that the photographs inspire some kind of emotion in the viewer. My aim is to do that by summoning a memory, eliciting a feeling of comfort or desire, or simply to bring on a pang of hunger!

Finely prepared food and drink speaks for itself — the flavours, smells and the context all help to create the moment. And while we can’t convey those same senses through an image, it can still be very powerful. Working with the lighting, positioning and background elements can elevate the food, the ingredients and textures to recreate that moment just enough for the viewer’s imagination to fill in the rest.

These are beautiful, thank you! Huge amounts of material to work from.

For me, capturing food and drink is also about bringing a sense of movement and togetherness to the photographs. It could be a glossy drip of honey over whipped ricotta on toasted sourdough, or the first flush of bubbles in a freshly poured pint. These details create a chain reaction from eye to brain to stomach that make us want more - even when captured in a photograph!
