People & Events

Working with people to shoot events and portraits is always so much fun! I’ve covered a wide range of events in the food and drink industry, such as venue opening nights or special industry events and parties.

The natural atmosphere at events is infectious, so I often try to blend into the surroundings and go into ‘stealth mode’ to capture those genuine social interactions between people that feel so warm and natural. Although I often work under the radar to not distract from the main event, I'm not shy of being front and centre - getting to know people and having a laugh while getting stuck into taking photos is part of the reason I love my job!

I am so chuffed with these photographs, Ellen. I cannot thank you enough.

When I’m taking someone’s portrait, or shooting in a more formal setting people often feel nervous when they know they’re about to be photographed, so I’ll typically just have the camera by my side and start by having a chat. Breaking that initial barrier, helping the subject to relax and forget I’m there to take their picture can really put them at ease and result in very human pictures.
